Sawyer Construction was founded by Ken Sawyer in 1990. Ken’s construction experience began with his father, a contractor in central British Columbia, and continued in homebuilding in Vancouver. In 1969 he moved to California and studied Japanese carpentry with Paul Discoe, now owner of Joinery Structures in Oakland, who was trained in Japan in traditional temple carpentry. Ken worked in construction in Monterey, San Francisco and Marin counties in a wide array of projects and building styles before moving to Sonoma County in 1990. In 1992, his son Micah, who had grown up around construction, joined the company, becoming a partner in 1994. In addition to his innate abilities in carpentry and mechanics, Micah’s significant computer and management skills have allowed the company to take on larger and more complex projects.
